Would you agree that I need a new golf glove? If my kids are reading this, "potential Father's Day gift guys!." Here we are at Lane Creek yesterday. It is my second venture toward shooting 40 at 40. Not having hit a ball off the range in three weeks had its own tale to tell. My iron play was miserable at best. The only thing that kept me in the "zone" if I dare call it that was my driver that was always in the fairway, save one on 11 off the tee where a topped drive led to a needed 3 wood that took me down to striking distance to have an opportunity to get on in regulation.

The good was that I didn't have but 2 double bogeys and nothing worse. The bad is that I only hit one GIR (green in regulation) the whole 9 hole 'round.' My ball striking could have been a thousand times better!

Hole 14 at Lane Creek was my opportunity at a birdie putt. Missed it, but sunk the par, my only one of the day! All in all I can't be too displeased with my performance. Harry went with me and after some coaxing to "not" play the red tees and at age eight "be okay" with teeing off from 200 yards out he pared his second hole of the day. Thought that was kind of neat!

A Goal Set for the Next Year

Well here we go. My kids have been telling me I needed to blog about this so I suppose I will. See, I am turning 40 tomorrow. Not very excited about it, but I have two goals for the next year. One is to shoot 40 on a 9 holes of golf. Possible you say? Not probable. See, I haven't played that much golf over the years. Been toying with the game for 20 + years and have never seemed to develop that confidence between the ears to play the game. Why can't I though shoot a legitimate, count every stroke with no mulligan 40. I mean, this guy wearing his Green Jacket was seen at a Krispy Kreme and he is not too junior to me in age!

This is also ironically the month of Harry Vardon's 140th birthday. A contemporary of his, and yes to my oldest I had to throw in a couple of Brits, Ted Ray made the comment regarding golf "Golf is a fascinating game. It has taken me nearly forty years to discover that I can't play it."

Well here I am at age 40 tomorrow and I am going to prove in the next year that I can play it. On my first pre-40 attempt yesterday I shot a respectable 49 that included putting at four pars, double bogeying two par 3's and getting one snow man. Got to redo that hole some time?!?!

Over this next year I will hit my goal of 40 at 40 or die trying!
